Cape

Little red riding hood

June 23, 2012

This divine little 'capelet' was knitted for Isabella by my beautiful Mum last year.  Sadly, Issie did not like wearing it, but, gladly, this year, Juliette does!
The pattern is by Hadley Fierlinger and is downloadable from ravelry here.  Mum said the wool was a wool/mohair blend (Italian made) that she picked up at Lincraft (we've lost the label).  Apparantly it is still in stock.
Juliette looks so sweet in this little capelet and I'm sure she will be wearing it lots this winter!

Booties

Bootie-licious

June 21, 2012

I've jumped on the knitting bandwagon.  Emily is three and half months old and it dawned on me that I hadn't knitted her a pair of booties yet...she will quickly grow and be crawling and walking around before I know it so I had to get my bootie knitting fix before she grows to fast!
Both pairs are from Hadley Fierlinger's book, "Vintage knits for modern babies".  The patterns are also on ravelry.  I used wool from stash - both 8ply so nice and quick to knit.
Here's our little sweetheart - couldn't get a good full length shot but got this super cute one instead!  I've finally put my first project on ravelry too and have found another beautiful pattern to knit with some of my bits and pieces.  It's this top from the Purl Bee.

I'm using cream and black merino (4ply).

Emily's quilt

Emily's quilt finished!

June 14, 2012

Yesterday I finished Emily's Children at Play cot quilt.  Here she is looking very happy about the fact!
Emily is still in her cradle and I am planning on painting her cot before she 'moves in' so this quilt will sit folded in her room for a few more weeks.
I snapped away with the camera late yesterday afternoon, trying to photograph the quilt and Emily before the last minutes of sunlight faded...

Although this picture is a little out of focus and off centre, I am quite proud of it as I managed to take it with the camera on self timer perched on our hot water service whilst fending off a helpful toddler and nursing a colicy bub!  I like the 1970's look about it - the perfect little bit of dappled sunlight at that particular moment.
Meanwhile, I have quite a few works in progress that are also keeping me busy.  My scrappy quilt is still in pieces but will be finished in the next couple of weeks (months...), The Emily Button project, as well as a little knitted vest for Juliette...and I couldn't help it but have already started piecing together another quilt - this one for Juliette for her big bed.  She has just turned two and is still in a cot which works for us at the moment as she can be quite cheeky at bed time.
How many works in progress do you have on the go?

Quilts

Dolly quilt

June 07, 2012

I have finally got around to putting pics of this little project I completed a while back.  I gave the girls' cradle a new coat of paint and fitted it out with a little mattress, pillow and quilt.
I made the quilt from fabrics in my stash.  I like the candy style colour scheme.
It's backed with some Sherbet Pips puppy dogs.

Meanwhile, I'm busily working on Emily's quilt - grabbing five minutes here and there, between spinning plates, trying to get it finished!  I'm linking up here today.

Make it Perfect pattern

Winter is here

June 04, 2012

Looking out the window this afternoon in Melbourne, it is clear that winter is well and truly here!  Isabella put on this jacket a couple of weeks back and it was already too small for her.  She is growing up too fast.  I decided that the tangerine jacket looked better on Juliette so then went out hunting for some yummy wool to make the same pattern again for Issie (any excuse to buy more fabric).

I found this beautiful mauve wool from Rathdowne Remnants and envisaged a navy spotted lining to match.  I bought the spot from Spotlight and found the two navy buttons in my button stash.  I love this pattern, although if I made it again, I would probably go for the size up from my childrens' age.  The mauve jacket is a size four pattern but I prefer a roomier fit so would probably prefer the size five.

Here is a pic of the two girls (Juliette in Issie's hand me down - this is happening frequently with Isabella's clothes and will no doubt also be the pattern for Emily's wardrobe!).
